Engineered (also known as “synthetic,” or “all weather”) surfaces at multiple North American Thoroughbred racing tracks have significantly reduced catastrophic horse injuries, decreased weather-related cancellations and helped increase handle and field size. The Engineered Racing Surfaces Coalition believes these surfaces have a viable place in Thoroughbred racing’s future, and is committed to providing accurate and timely information about the benefits of these surfaces.
